BASTIS provides information on the following national parks within BSR (sorted by country, for a quick overview see the Benchmark Report):

  • Vilsandi National Park (Estonia): The national park is located in Saare County and includes the island of Vilsandi, 160 other islands and islets, parts of Western Saaremaa and the Harilaid peninsula.
  • Soomaa National Park (Estonia): The national park was established in 1993 to protect a pristine area of bogs and marshes, species-rich meadows and a variety of forests. According to the villagers, they have the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter, but also a fifth season of high water.
  • Rāzna National Park (Latvia): Latvia’s newest national park (2007) is in the “land of the blue lakes” – the region of Latgale. Lake Rāzna is the second largest in Latvia.
  • Curonian Spit National Park (Lithuania/Russia): The Curonian Spit is a 98 km long, thin, curved sand-dune spit that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea coast. Its southern portion lies within Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia and its northern within southwestern Lithuania.
