The main source for Tourism Accommodation and Capacity Statistics in Latvia is the Eurostat database[1]. Here the most harmonised and complete European Tourism Statistics can be found. Hence we use definitions according to Eurostat directives:

Hotels and similar Other collective accommodation

Hotels = 10 rooms or more
Guest houses = 5 rooms or more

Holiday dwellings = all establishments
Camping sites = all establishments
Other collective accomodation n.e.s. = all establishments

As additional sources TourMIS[2] and Latvijas Statistika[3] are used complementary with clearly marked references.

Eurostat collects and publishes statistical data on different geographical levels according to the "Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics, NUTS". For Latvia, NUTS 2 level ist identical with the whole country, this means that Eurostat does not deliver regional data on the amount of beds.

Interest in Latvia as a Holiday destination

Based on the Flash Eurobarometer 291[4] of March 2010 we can identify the interest for their main holiday destination 2010 of the 422 million citizens aged 15+ years in the 27 EU member states (EU27).
